Who is this creepy looking guy? His is the Roman Emperor Traianus Decius. The bust of his head carries a terribly worried look. I can’t help but that if the artist who was supposed to make this look his best ended up giving him a look of general anxiety… the Emperor must have really had some heavy things weighing on him.
But you don’t have to be an Emperor of the Roman Empire to feel the weight of life. School, kids, parents, friends, job, finances, vehicle problems, even success can all contribute to heavy anxiety in our lives.
So while Emperor Trainanus Decius had to fight battles with his army, the Mom at home has to fight battles with her two year old. I’m not sure I’d choose the latter given the choice. The student has to fight apathy, grades, and grouchy teachers. Teachers have to fight apathetic students, administrators, and budgets! All of us, no matter our place in life, are confronted with situations that cause stress.
For that reason my #1 suggest about dealing with anxiety is this: embrace reality. You have stress. Deal with it.
Ignoring it won’t make it go away (as we talked about in the last post). So, try some of the techniques listed in earlier posts. Try some of the products on our list such as “The Panic Miracle.” It can’t hurt, and it certainly can help. The articles here are free, and the products are worth their weight in gold if they work for you!
When I dealt with anxiety that caused my chest to hurt, woke me up at night, and even forced me to step out of Church one week because I thought I was having a heart attack (and subsequently went to the hospital and spent lots of money for nothing) I wish someone had given me this advice: Stop waiting. Find a healthy way to deal with your anxiety today.
